IONA COLLEGE PRSSA CHAPTER CAPTURES

STUDENT LEADERS’ ATTENTION AT NATIONAL CONFERENCE

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:

ATLANTA, GA, Oct. 27th 2001 – The Iona College PRSSA Chapter presented ideas, tactics and information about their “P.R. Pathfinder Lecture” Series to fellow PRSSA students from all over the country. The Iona College P.R. Pathfinder Lecture Series consists of monthly presentations from eminent national P.R. professionals.

The Iona College Chapter was one of only a few colleges and universities asked to give a professional development presentation at the 2001 PRSSA National Conference. Partnered with Florida A&M University, Iona wowed the audience with a plan for “paving the road to a Professional edge” by using this Pathfinder Series.

The Iona team, consisting of Chapter President Michael Dennehy, Emily DeLizza, Robert Fiore and Rick Genett, stressed the importance of creating such a lecture series. The series gives students a perspective of the P.R. profession through the eyes of a well-known P.R. professional and allows them to gain a better understanding of the field.

“I was extremely delighted to be held in the conference room following the presentation, fielding numerous questions from students about the successes of the Pathfinder Series” said Michael Dennehy, Chapter President. He urged other PRSSA chapters to adopt such a series at their college or university, so they can reap the same benefits.

Iona’s faculty advisor, Professor Bob Petrausch maintained, “The Iona PRSSA team received rave reviews from students in other parts of the country for their Presentation at the PRSSA National Conference. They deserve a lot of credit for their hard work”.

Professional Advisor, P. Michael McDermott, APR, PRSA Fellow stated, “The Iona team is an example of how you turn something small into something great”.

Throughout the remainder of the conference, other students, looking for information on the Pathfinder Lecture Series, frequently approached members of the Iona College PRSSA.

The Public relations Student Society of America is the Nation’s pre-eminent pre-professional public relations organization with more then 225 chapters and 6,500 students nationwide.  PRSSA is chartered by the Public Relations Society of America, which is the world’s largest PR professional society with some 20,000 members worldwide.  The Westchester / Fairfield PRSA sponsors the Iona PRSSA Chapter.
