P.R. PATHFINDER LECTURER TELLS IONA COLLEGE AUDIENCE:
"INTERNATIONAL PUBLIC RELATIONS IS 'A WORLD OF OPPORTUNITY' FOR
TODAY'S PUBLIC RELATIONS STUDENTS"
NEW ROCHELLE, NY, Sep. 20th. - A veteran international public relations practitioner told a student/faculty audience at Iona College tonight that "international public relations is 'a world of opportunity' for those entering the public relations profession. P. Michael McDermott, an international public relations counselor from Riverside CT, described the importance of thinking in worldwide terms when developing public relations programs for clients. McDermott, who taught at Iona for two years in its Flagship Mass Communication Department, said that, while the U.S. is playing catch-up in thinking globally, it is vital to do so. One out of every four U.S. jobs depends on global trade, McDermott stressed, and cited today's 24-hour-a-day non-stop flow of communications and trade as major factors affecting the public relations profession in the new millennium.
The "Public Relations Pathfinder" Lecture Series is in its second year at Iona, and features renowned national leaders in the public relations profession who have expressed their willingness to share their lifetimes of experience with the next generation of public relations practitioners. The Lecture Series is sponsored by the Iona College Chapter of the Public Relations Student Society of America, one of over 200 such chapters nationwide.
