-- On Monday, October 29th, 2001 at the Public Relations Student
Society of America (PRSSA) National Conference in Atlanta, Georgia, Michael
Dennehy, a Westwood, NJ native, son of Mr./ Mrs. William Dennehy and Iona
College’s PRSSA Chapter President, received the National President’s Citation
Award. PRSSA’s National President, Dirk Munson, presented the award at the
annual awards dinner.
Michael
is the first Iona College student to receive such a prestigious award in the
mass communication field of study. The National President’s Citation Award is
bestowed upon individuals who possess exceptional leadership and professional
skills, have a strong under-standing of PRSSA, and are active members of the
organization on a chapter or national level.
Dennehy,
an Iona senior, is one of the founding members of Iona College’s reinstated
PRSSA chapter. Within the past two years the chapter has grown exponentially
due to his dedication and hard work. When asked to reflect on such an honor,
Dennehy commented, “I feel honored and privileged to receive such an award.”
Prof. Robert Petrausch, the faculty advisor to Iona College’s PRSSA Chapter,
added, “Mike has worked very hard to help make the PRSSA known on campus, and I
am very proud of his accomplishments.”
Some
of Dennehy’s remarkable and noteworthy accomplishments include the planning and
coordinating of various public relations projects and activities for the Iona
College PRSSA Chapter and the implementation of the “Public Relations
Pathfinder” lecture series at Iona, which brings top professionals in the
industry to speak directly to the Iona community. He also has represented Iona College at PRSA/PRSSA National
Conferences in Chicago and Atlanta, as well as being a delegate at PRSSA’s
National Assembly in New Orleans.
Dennehy is also involved in a number of
different campus activities and events including the Ionian campus
newspaper, a SGA (Student Government Association) student leader, and has
participated in organizing Development Leadership Retreats and Midnight Runs
with Iona’s Campus Ministry. He is currently involved in creating an Iona
College PRSSA Chapter Corporate Fundraising Appeal and overseeing the growth
and development of Iona’s PRSSA Chapter.
He also serves on the Westchester/Fairfield PRSA Chapter Board as an Academic
Liaison, and represents PRSSA at the United Nations as a Non-Governmental
Organization under the PRSA Delegation.
The
Public Relations Student Society of America is the Nation’s pre-eminent
pre-professional public relations organization with more than 225 chapters and
6,500 students nationwide. PRSSA is chartered by the Public Relations Society
of America, which is the world’s largest PR organization with over 20,000
members worldwide. The Westchester/ Fairfield PRSA Chapter sponsors the Iona
