Kelly Albanese is a senior at Iona College in New Rochelle, N.Y. where she is majoring in Mass
Communications with a specialization in public relations and minoring in English. She has been a member
of PRSSA since September of 2001. Prior to being elected to the National Committee, Kelly served on the
executive board of Iona’s chapter as writing coordinator. She also was named captain of the Bateman team
for the 2001-2002 competition. Her chapter involvement includes helping plan and host a hospitality dinner
with her school’s Center for Campus Ministry and her PRSSA chapter. She attended her first National
Conference in Atlanta in 2001 and the National Assembly in San Diego in 2002 where she was elected to
the position of Vice President of Chapter Development. In May she attended the annual Big Apple Awards
Luncheon hosted by the New York City chapter of PRSA and was given an award for outstanding achievements
in public relations.
Kelly has gained public relations experience as the director of public relations for Iona’s college
newspaper, The Ionian. She also served as managing editor for the second semester. She conducted target
audience research and provided crisis consulting. She has also done a small amount of freelance work for
an up-and-coming integrated marketing firm in New York City.
She currently serves as the National Vice President of Chapter Development. During her 2002-2003 term she
plans to implement “Chapter Chats,” which will be an open forum for chapter presidents to discuss problems
and possible solutions. “I’m really excited about “Chapter Chats” because it will give chapter presidents
from all over the country the opportunity to help each other,” Albanese said. Kelly will also be
establishing a Community Building Program to help strengthen relationships between PRSSA chapters and
their surrounding communities through volunteer work. She will also continue the popular
leadership-training program for chapter presidents that was implemented in 2001. Other responsibilities
include coordinating chapter development sessions, the continuance of the Daring Duo program and helping
chapters to grow in positive directions.
After graduation Kelly would like to attend graduate school to attain her M.B.A. in marketing. Her
public relations passions are non-profit and event planning and would ultimately like to make a career
out of combining the two.
During her free time, she enjoys water and snow sports, reading books, dancing, spending time with her
family and friends, watching hockey, and laughing.
