Michael Dennehy, a Westwood resident, son of Mr. & Mrs. William Dennehy and St. Joseph Regional High School
Alumnus, recently graduated with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Mass Communication/Public Relations from Iona College
in New Rochelle, NY. Mike also was awarded an Outstanding Senior Leadership Award for his service to the college
community. Michael also became the first Iona College Public Relations Student Society of America member given
the “President Emeritus” Award, which will be a lifetime Advisory position to the chapter. He is currently a
candidate for the PRSSA Professor Sidney Gross Award for Ethical Awareness. His PRSSA Chapter is also a finalist
for the Teahan Award for Outstanding Chapter Website, which they dedicated to Iona’s fifteen lost alumni from
September 11th. Mike was also one of seven students selected to attend the prestigious Iona College Board of
Trustees Black Tie Dinner Dance at the Waldorf-Astoria which honored the fifteen lost alumni and their families.
Mike is also the 2001/2002 Iona College PRSSA Chapter President as well as a 2001 National President’s Citation
Award Winner. Mike is also recognized in “Who’s Who Among Students in American Universities & Colleges.”
Mike will be pursuing a broad career in public relations with interests in the corporate sector as well as
international promotion and media training.
Mike is one of the founding members of the reinstated Iona College PRSSA Chapter. Since then, Mike has been
very active in leading the chapter to accomplish many things as well as striving to reach new goals. Mike has
previously been the Chapter’s Treasurer since joining PRSSA in the spring of 2000. This is where he was able to
implement a Corporate Fundraising Appeal.
Mike has taken part in many of the Chapter’s activities including the 2000 North-Eastern Regional Activity
focusing on Crisis Communications at Syracuse University. He helped his team win an Outstanding Superlative Award
for Overcoming the Most Obstacles. He also helped organize a very successful Regional Program at Iona College in
the spring of 2001 entitled “PR Perspectives and Realities.” He has also attended several PRSSA sponsored
Internship/Job Fairs, coordinated an Election Evening PR symposium, and written an article for the PRSSA Forum
Newsletter.
Mike has also attended the 2000 PRSA/PRSSA National Conference in Chicago, served as the Iona College PRSSA
Delegate at the 2001 PRSSA National Assembly in New Orleans. Mike also participated in a Chapter Development
Session given by Iona College-PRSSA at the 2001 PRSA/PRSSA National Conference in Atlanta. At the 2000 and 2001
National Conferences, Mike attended the prestigious PRSA International Dinners.
Michael is also the co-coordinator of the Iona College PRSSA “PR Pathfinder” Lecture Series, which brings the
most well respected professionals to speak in college forums. Mike also attends United Nations Non-Governmental
Symposiums representing PRSSA. Mike also represents Iona’s PRSSA Chapter as an Academic Liaison to their
sponsoring PRSA Westchester/Fairfield Board. Mike was also a member of the Iona College PRSSA Bateman Case Studies
Competition team, which competed in a nationwide travel public relations campaign.
Mike also serves as a PR consultant to the School Newspaper, The Ionian. He has also represented Iona
College PRSSA in the Student Government Association besides taking part in a wide variety of school-related
activities and leadership projects. Mike also continues to write editorials in regional newspapers.
Mike has previously interned with Stanton-Crenshaw Communications-Best Mid-Sized Firm 1999-2000. He has also
served as a PR/Tournament Director for a leading Recreation/Tennis Center, as well as a PR consultant to the SCORE
group, which is part of the U.S. Small Business Association.
In his free time, Mike enjoys classic rock such as Bruce Springsteen and The Beatles. He is an avid Yankees fan
and a political junky. He also enjoys playing baseball, tennis, and golf as well as going to concerts and dancing
with friends. Mike also loves traveling with family and friends.
